Artist's Description

Some of the greatest experiences I ever had.. witnessing and photographing the launches of several of the first space shuttles from 1981 through 1983. The sight was beyond belief and the sound was a completely different dimension.. the air was literally crackling with the vibrations. My original shot, a 30-year old Kodachrome transparency, is in excellent condition. I will be having a professional scan done at higher resolution if larger prints are requested. © 1983 Marie Hicks, All Rights Reserved

My all-consuming passion is art. It's very likely that it's in my DNA. I credit my Italian heritage for it, since my ancestry traces back through some of Italy's most noted artistic communities, primarily Florence, Tuscany, and Naples. Obsessed with capturing the beauty of nature from an early age, I loved drawing, painting, and creating books about birds, flowers, and animals as a child. Encouraged by my parents and teachers, I expanded my skills over time, setting my sights on a career in publication design.
